Rector Hovhannes Tokmajyan’s message to university students, lecturers and administrative staff

Dear colleagues and students

In the context of world spread pandemic Covid-19 and in the current context of the global crisis, I consider it proper to ask and urge you to find the strength to take the necessary steps to solve the problems posed by society and the state.

Our nation has passed through the wars with dignity and gained the right to live a safe and prosperous life in our homeland.

However, the fate has prepared another hardship for us and for all the nations of the world.

While maintaining the ban on direct contact among people we should not use it as an excuse not to do anything concerning our teaching… we do not have the right to fail the educational process…

In this situation we are to continue the academic process remotely.

Now, more than ever, we must realize that the world will not be the same as it was before. So today, instead of doing nothing we are urged to take real steps.

I urge everyone to feel every sense of responsibility when it comes to ensuring the academic activity of the university. Otherwise, it will be difficult for us to continue the path we started together. This concerns all the students as well as lecturers and all university staff.

The managing department of the university should ensure the uninterrupted maintenance of the university buildings and educational bases including the full implementation of the spring field works.

Noting that the most important thing is the security and health of our people, first of all it is necessary to unconditionally follow the instructions of the authorized state bodies and keep the rules of personal hygiene.

In the current situation, in order to ensure the normal activity of the university and to discuss our forthcoming issues, I suggest having an extended online meeting of the Academic Council on 10.04.2020, Friday, at 17:00 in which, in addition to the members of the Academic Council, Vice-Rectors of the university,  Deans,  Heads of Departments and all the college course masters  should participate. The online session of the Academic Council will be held on with open screens.

University vice-rectors, deans and heads of all departments are instructed to do their duties to the fullest extent possible based on the specific circumstances of the created situation.

According to the announced timetable, online lectures should be continued on system with open screens (except for those who monitor the lectures).

Lecture recordings and hometasks must be loaded on the university’s official website ( and in its Facebook profile. Direct lecturer-student communication can also be done using Skype, Viber, Facebook and other applications of communication.

The work of every lecturer will be assessed based on the level of remote teaching results and lecturer-student contact level.

I hope that our university will withstand this critical situation without significant shortcomings thus gaining certain skills of remote teaching.

Best regards Hovahannes Tokmajyan
